Is satisfaction overrated?

Hello all,
I Avinash Meshram, welcome you to my blog, Shall We Live on Mars? I hope you like to read my blog. Smiley...

I was laying on my bed scrolling into my phone when I saw a text in one of my WhatsApp groups that said, “Sushant Singh Rajput died”.

My eyes widened after reading the post and the first thought that came into my mind was, “That can’t be true! It must be one of those spam posts that usually roam around in WhatsApp groups”

I got off the group and googled the news for conformation, only to get shocked. The news read, “Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide”

The news was real. He had committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan of his bedroom, in his apartment!

Sushant Singh Rajput was a known actor in Bollywood industry. He didn’t have any godfather. He was studying Engineering in Delhi and was passionate about dance. He had joined a dance academy to pursue his passion for dance, where he met with a few friends who were also learning acting. He followed them to the acting class and soon realized that he was more interested in acting than engineering. His passion for acting brought him to Mumbai and he found his way up from theater, to advertisement, to TV series, to movies, by shear talent.

He must have worked hard to climb all those steps. And he got paid for his hard work. How many people can say that they have a job they are truly passionate about and also, they are successful in that. He was one of those rare people. So he must have been satisfied right?

But apparently, he was not!

He had money, he had luxurious life. He had a good career and success. He had stardom. He was famous and he was really talented. For a common man’s perspective, he had all that a man needs in his life. Many must have wanted a life that he was living. Many must have envied him. Many must have wanted themselves in his shoes. But apparently, he didn’t!

Why should that be?

There is a saying, “Suicide is a coward’s way out.”

I don’t think so.

I am not in support to committing suicide. It is a crime and it should not be done. But still, I think that it must take a lot of courage to commit suicide. Our natural instinct is always to save ourselves. And that is why we are all isolating ourselves in this pandemic. For survival. None of us would like to see the death walking towards us. So it must have been tough for him to know that he was going to die. It must have been tough for him to know that it is going to hurt. It must have been tough for him to know that there are people who would be hurt knowing that he has left them behind. It must have taken a lot of courage to know that he can save his life and still choosing not to do that.

He got success at a very young age and found his way up the ladder in a fast pace. He was just 34 and was enjoying a good success with projects lined up for him. And yet, he had something that he didn’t want to have. That he was so upset with, that he thought it is better to die instead of living. There was something because of which he was not satisfied in his life. I don’t know what that something was? Can’t say anything about that. but I do have a question.

Is satisfaction overrated?

Those who don’t have a job think they would be satisfied once they get a job. Those who don’t have money think they would be satisfied once they get money. Some think they would be satisfied after getting a girlfriend. Some see satisfaction in living their passion. Etc.

But he had all of that. He was living his passion. He was in a relationship. And he had enough money to enjoy the perks of life. The rent of the apartment, he was living in, is 4.5 lakh INR. (Nine people can have a decent lifestyle in that amount).

But he was not satisfied!

What is satisfaction then? And when do we get it?

I think satisfaction is a journey, not a destination. You can never be completely satisfied. There would always be something that you would want to achieve, irrespective of how much you have already achieved. So if we see satisfaction as a destination that we have to reach, then we would never reach there and hence we would never be happy about the distance we have covered towards the destination. We would always be unhappy for not reaching there yet. But if we see satisfaction as a journey. Then we will enjoy the journey. We will find happiness after crossing every milestone, however little it might be. We will rest in between, look back, and see how far have we come. We would also look ahead and know that we have a long path to cover, but we will not be desperate to reach there, because we will be enjoying the journey.

I believe life should be interesting than happy. And struggle is what makes our life interesting. It could be of any kind of a struggle, financial, physical, mental etc. Whatever it may be. Just keep fighting. Don’t stop and don’t quit. Quitting is always an option, but it is never a solution!

RIP Sushant Singh Rajput!!!!

I loved your role in many of the movies. I hope you got the satisfaction you were looking for.
